Play the Choo Choo! Ride the Choo Choo!

We had a fun Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday we went to the new IKEA store that opened in Draper last week with Jeff. It was crazy busy even though we got there when it opened (10am). There is a restaurant in the store that we wanted to try out. We planned to go for breakfast at the start and lunch at the end.

We got breakfast when we first got there which consisted of scrambled eggs (or egg product?), bacon, potatoes (with peppers and onion) and french toast sticks. We also got a cinnamon roll and the apple cake. The potatoes were my favorites. The french toast sticks were good as well. The cinnamon roll was ok and the apple cake was more like a really tall cold apple pie. It was good but a little much (I thought we'd share it but Jennifer and Jeff were full by the time we got to that).

After we ate we started shopping. The first part of the store that we got to had the children's furniture and toys. This is where we did most of our purchasing. We got a train set for Tyler ("Play the Choo Choo!"). They had a set out to play with that Tyler did not want to leave when it was time to move on. We even showed him the one that we were going to take home and he didn't really care. We had to move him from one distraction to the next, and the next one was the tent. We'd been thinking about looking for something like this for Tyler so that he could have his own little space to play in.

The rest of the time was spent wandering around and looking at stuff without really getting a chance to see anything 'close up" since Tyler was running around. It was fun for us and Tyler got a train set out of it :) We're planning on going back in the next week or two to get a new piece of furniture for the TV. We've looked at some of them online and just need to look at it in the store before we choose what to do.

Tyler really loves his train. Starting with the ride home, we told him that when we got home he could play with the train. The first thing out of his mouth when he wakes up for the past few days has been "Play with Choo Choo?"

On Monday we decided to go downtown to Temple Square so that Tyler could see the temple and we thought it would be fun for him to ride TRAX (light rail in SLC) which is where he got to "Ride the Choo Choo!" He was pretty excited about it and sat still for most of the ride up to Salt Lake. He liked it when the train went fast. Andrew and Brian came with us on this trip.

Downtown we walked around Temple Square and went into the North Visitor's Center (where the Christus Statue is). Tyler was hungry by this point so he wasn't really wanting to sit still. We walked down to the Gateway mall and ate lunch and shopped for a little bit. After that we got back on TRAX and went back home for a BBQ. Jeff joined us for that as well as Hannah (Tyler's friend) and Lisa (her mother).

So that was our weekend. Not too exciting, but it was fun and active (as in left the house and didn't just sit around all weekend). Of course we forgot to bring our camera on either of these trips, but I'll post some photos of Tyler and his new train and tent.

I've been using Picasa Web Albums to host my online photos for a few months now. They just launched a new feature (Picasa Web Albums introduces embeddable Flash slideshows on DownloadSquad.com) that allows me to embed a flash slideshow of a web album! Check it out below for the April 2007 album.

Segways at Thanksgiving Point

The afternoon after Convocation, we went to the Thanksgiving Point Gardens in Lehi. It was fun to see the flowers (the tulip festival was on) and let Tyler run around. Near the back of the gardens a tent was set up by Segway of Spanish Fork. They were going to start offering a service the following Monday where you could rent a Segway by the hour to take around the gardens. So, to promote this new service, they were allowing short "demo" rides.

This was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Jennifer and I have talked about maybe getting a Segway for me to commute on (since work is less than 5 miles away) so this was a perfect opportunity to actually try one out.

Even knowing how it works (I've followed the technology for years now and one of the executives came to BYU to give a Computer Science colloquium), it was still something totally different to experience. It was fun and unique experience and if you get the chance to ride one, take it!

73 New Photos for April

April was a photo happy month (May is turning out to be a somewhat photo stingy month though), but I've uploaded 73 new photos to the April album for you to enjoy. Many of them are from Graduation Day when we went to the Thanksgiving Point Gardens.
